Earning Top Grades in College
Everyone would like to get high grades on a consistent basis, but only a small percentage of Choosing a college students manage to do it. The students who “ace” their exams regularly don’t have any great secret, but simply work in a methodical manner. If you would like to get an “A” on a regular basis then you should also start working in a systematic way. Follow my guidelines outlined here and you too can enjoy academic success.
The first step in doing well on your exams is to keep up with your reading assignments on a regular basis. A lot of students like to leave everything to the last minute and then do intense cramming in the last few days before the exam. This can work “theoretically” but the reality is that you cannot absorb all the information at the last minute. You will be in a much better position to do well on your exams if you read the required books as they are assigned to you.
Another important tip is to attend all the classes and lectures and personally take good notes. Rather than copy someone else’s note, be on hand at the lectures and take your own notes. If you do not attend and just copy the notes of others you may miss important information and may not grasp the context in which the notes were written.
Another tip for doing well on exams is to take the trouble to find out exactly what the test will be covering. Ask your instructor or professor and find out which reading assignments are covered by the test and find out any other available information on the nature of the coming examination. This step is important if you want to review your material in the most efficient way prior to the test.
If you have done your reading assignments regularly, taken good notes, and know what the test will cover then the next step is simply to review the material thoroughly the day before the test. Focus on the main points of the class notes and skim through the books that you were supposed to read. If you have time, go through all of the material two or three times and then get a good night’s sleep.
The last step is simply to show up for the exam alert, well rested and with a positive attitude. If you enter the exam with a clear mind and work confidently then you will more likely be able to follow the instructions of the exam properly and avoid procedural mistakes that could be costly to you. When you take your exam, make sure that you understand exactly what you have to do, and if you have any doubts, then ask the instructor.
Believe it or not, it is not difficult to get high marks, “aces,” on a steady basis if you the follow the tips that I have discussed in this article. So prepare yourself well and do your very best on the tests and examinations that will come in the months ahead.
