Have A Son You’re Sending Off To College? Here Is Some Great Advice For Them.
So, someone is heading off to further their studies at some university. Going to college is a big step in a person’s life. There are a number of unknown experiences they will have for the first time in their lives. It would be wise of them to take some advice from an experienced university graduate.
Figure on banging out some study work first thing in the morning every single day. Chances are you are at your sharpest mentally soon after you wake up in the morning. That is of course assuming you weren’t out screwing off the previous evening. Take advantage of the clear mind and see how much reading you can get done in the shortest amount of time. It will make the rest of your day go a lot smoother.
Don’t schedule classes back to back or too close together. There are going to be times when you want to get stuff done right before class that you forgot about. You need the extra time. Plus, you don’t want to be in a hurry getting from class to class.
You’ll get off to a running start if you meet friends in your classes the first day. Introduce yourself to someone sitting next to you in the room. See if you have anything in common. You need to have someone you can bounce ideas off of for class or just to ask questions if the need arises.
Buy a lockable box for your dorm room. You really need to have somewhere safe to keep personal items. Without one, you are bound to possibly end up having something come up missing. Then you are going to look for a person to blame. You’ll never know if it was your own fault or if somebody stole from you.
Your studies will take off fast. Take good notes the very first day of class. You might expect the first day to be a breeze. It probably won’t be. Make sure you have your supplies prepared. There will probably be things mentioned that you don’t want to forget.
Act like a leader. Try to organize specific times to get together with other people in all of your major classes for a study group. Don’t go gang busters. You don’t need too many people. You actually only want just a few. Anymore than that and your study group will turn into a party.
Focus on areas where you will be spending a bunch of your time. Make your study area in your dorm room as comfortable and as well organized as you can. It is extremely important to be well organized. When you are on stress overload because you have got so much work to do, it will be a lot easier if you’re properly organized.
