The most competitive scholarships are for having very good grades. You probably have to score very well on the ACT and have a high GPA to be in the running for these type of scholarships.
One of the hottest scholarships is if you’re a student athlete. You’ve got to be a standout athlete in high school in your sport to qualify. These are also extraordinarily competitive and you need to typically maintain a certain GPA to stay academically eligible.
Some people in poverty are still able to find money for college with scholarships based on need. These are awarded if you and your family do not have very much money and cannot afford school. There may be other strict guidelines for these scholarships compared to others. It is not uncommon for a very poor student from a disadvantaged background to be offered a full ride scholarship from some source.
The best way to increase your chance of being awarded scholarships is to apply for as many as you can that you are qualified for. Many students literally apply for hundreds of scholarships online since it is so easy and then they are lucky if they are awarded a few.
It is a shame that so many scholarships out there are not put to good use because there are no qualified candidates who bother applying. Sometimes there is money just sitting out there waiting for the right person to submit their application. Just do some research on your own and you are bound to find dozens if not hundreds of scholarships that you may be eligible for.
