Is college worth the cost, or should i just find a good paying job and stick with that.?

I know every body tells you to go to college.What i have notticed is two things.
One
That it is hard to pay for college.I can not get a schlorship or grants.While if you get a loan, you may be paying for it for a while like my friends.
Second
I know some people that when they do get a degree they either work in what they did not even major in, or they still end up working at a crappy job because they can not find any jobs.

You can't go wrong with education, you might not get a job that compares to your degree, but just having a degree will open a lot more doors of opportunity for you.

it depends, some people go to college and cant find a job. However with so many people out there with degrees a lot of jobs now require degrees or if they don't and someone with a degree applies it would probably give them the edge.

I would find a decent paying job, but look for something that offers some sort of tuition reimbursement or partial scholarship program. That's how I finished an associate degree, by taking a free class on Saturdays. However, now I can't find a job. But at least I got the personal victory of going back to school and finishing something.

It is always worth getting a college degree. If you don't work in your chosen field that is your fault.

What you say is true, but when you want to leave a job and go for better prospects, the college degree comes in very, very handy

you can't really measure other people life experiences and determine what your life may be. Going to college can get you a good job, however, there is more to it. Students have to actively pursue the career the want by going after internships for the experience. Just going to school and pursuing paper does not cut it anymore. Supplementing your education does.
Though you can't get grants, you can get work study, and need-based loans. Interest does not accrue on need-basd once they have been disbursed. There is perkins (have been extended for one year) (please contact your congressman and encourage them to extend the perkins loan for 3 years) and the federal subsidize loans. I am doing my best to be eligible for need loans because of this benefit.
But, if you do wish to work…then go to school part time and find an employer with tuition benefits. Not being eligible for grants should not be a reason to go to school. Loans should not scare people away since they are tax deductable and there are programs that pay up to a certain limit on the loans

Warren, apparently you and your friends are still young taking in consideration you are looking for an answer in such a subject. Do you think you will see success from a degree the moment it is in your hands. NO!!! you can get a degree and see the results no less than ten years later. Those who see it before then are nothing more than lucky! So lets break out the balancing scales. Good job now and reach a limit you when you cant make any more money because you can only be paid so much before your boss will say "that's it" 20 years later you are wishing you had a degree because all of your managers get better money. A degree opens more doors than imaginable however those doors wont be so easy to see until you have experiences. You can have a masters degree but without determination you land a job that requires you to remember the phrase "would you like fries with that". If you ever wonder why people say dont choose a general degree or an easy degree then ask your friends why they are not working in a field that their degree is in. Also why choose a degree in something that doesnt have potential. If you have a degree and not working in that field then it is nothing more than piss poor planning. Join the military (Air Force/Navy) and let them pay for your college. If you go army or Marines you will be in Iraq. There are career counselors at your school you know.
